Bank of America=Fail

After inquiring about ~$15 USD in fees during the last few days in Taiwan, I received this:

“Please be informed that the International ATM usage fee is $5.00. This
fee is assessed for each withdrawal, transfer or balance inquiry
performed at a non-Bank of America ATM or non-Global ATM Alliance bank
located in a foreign country.

In addition to the ATM usage fee, Bank of America assesses an
international transaction fee for Check Card transactions in foreign
currency or in U.S. dollars with foreign merchants in the amount of 3%
of the U.S. dollar amount of the transaction and 1% for all ATM
transactions processed in foreign currency. The fee is assessed as a
separate transaction fee on the posting date of the purchase or

Please note that the ATM operator may charge an additional fee for cash
withdrawals. While traveling outside the United States, you can avoid
the $5.00 access fee by using an ATM at the following banks in these

– Barclays – United Kingdom
– BNP Paribas – France
– China Construction Bank – China
– Deutsche Bank  Germany
– Santander Serfin – Mexico
– Scotiabank – Canada
– Westpac – Australia and New Zealand”

Really BofA??  You couldn’t have told me that the ten times I called before going abroad??  -_- Looks like I will either have to go to a bank and convert money or pay another ~6 dollar fee to get some cash.  Great…

Eek, they really didn’t mention it? Didn’t I warn you about foreign transaction?

  • Laura says:

I thought it was so weird when you said you could pull money out for free. BofA literally rapes you with fees. Good luck fighting it. You should fight it and see if you can get your money back. Fight it when you get back and then change banks. I’m with Chase now. I leave BofA open just in case I have to cash checks asap but all my money is now at Chase.
